A Pleasure Drive was held early in June at Temora. It was a great opportunity to take out a new pony to stretch legs in a safe situation. Three turnouts came along and had a great drive along quiet roads, plus a splash through the water obstacle. A local farmer turned up to have a look after finding it listed on the Temora website. He and his daughter both enjoyed a turn in the vehicles.
At the end of June the Club ran a TPR School at Rosemount Equestrian Centre near Goulburn. Everyone did practical and written exams which included questions for both CDE and PEH activities. It was very well run by Dr Ian Denney, and with three experienced TPR Stewards assisting the vet showing how to do the horse examinations, everyone had an excellent opportunity to learn how to examine a horse successfully.
An Endurance drive was run by the Club at Marrar from July 5 – 11. It started with 4 Full Endurance drivers with horses, and over the week there were 7 entries in the Half Endurance drive, one of which was from Queensland. Over the week the Full Endurance drivers completed 300km. They displayed great knowledge and horsemanship and always vetted through with heart rates in the low 40s.The Half Endurance drivers completed 150km over the week. Most of these drove unclipped ponies. The longer coats made it harder to get the heart rate down below 55bpm, so they needed the full 30 minutes at the end of the drive before presenting for vetting.
The Rosemount Equestrian Centre’s covered arena was much appreciated on August 16 for the dressage training day. It was cold and raining at Laggan, but the rain held off at Rosemount and it was great to be out of the wind. The sand in the arena was compacted so driving was easy.
