Hills District Harness Club

Last updated September 2008
The Hills Club has had regular activities over winter running two pleasure drives and the annual Gymkhana, as well as having a good representation at the annual Inter Club Challenge Day, this year held at Bundanoon by the Southern Highlands Club. The Hills AGM was again held in conjunction with the Anniversary Lunch at Maraylya, in late July.

The pleasure drives were held at Maraylya and Mountain Lagoon – which is off the Bells Line of Road at Kurrajong. The Winter Gymkhana was again held at June Malmberg’s property at Londonderry and featured a range of show classes as well as a cones course. Belinda Casper’s Houston was Champion Pony, Karen Silvester’s Wilbur Champion Horse and Barbara Smith driving Ness won Champion Turnout.
The Interclub Challenge Day attracted six Hills members together with family and friends. The drivers were Belinda Casper with Houston, Eddie Dobbin with George, Gay Bostock with Rusty, Kimberlee McGregor with Lulu, Neil Murray with Victa and Amanda Kettlestring with Jerry. Some very early starts were made from home to get to Bundanoon. Plenty of rugging up was the order of the day with a very cold change sweeping across the Highlands that weekend.
The day was made for Neil Murray and Donna Reed and twins Toneya and Georgia when Neil and Victa were awarded the Hills Shield. Toneya also groomed for Kimberlee McGregor and Georgia was a wonderful help as a flag race steward, whilst another of the younger brigade, Kaitlin Shirtliff, who came with Eddie and Rhonda Dobbin, proved a very capable and popular groom for a number of competitors especially in the Flag and Water races.
