NSW Show Driving Championsips 2007 at Moss Vale

The State Show Driving Championships were conducted by the Southern Highlands Club in conjunction with the Moss Vale Show Society in March. They proved a big success.

Despite difficulties with the weather, entry numbers were pleasing and well above the usual good numbers seen at Moss Vale. Having the whole of the main arena to ourselves for the day was excellent, as it meant carriage driving was in the eye of the general show crowd for the whole day. Many people were seen sitting in the stands watching the classes.
The Supreme Champion Horse or Pony, winning the President’s Perpetual Cup, was the lovely dapple grey pony Riverlodge Vanity’s Hero, driven by Kerry Barlow. This pony is a regular champion at the Sydney Royal. Another outstanding exhibit was the Baker’s Turnout with a big black horse driven by Rick Jones. This turnout won the Concours d’Elegance Perpetual Trophy. It was good to see competitors from Southern Highlands, Hills, Reedy Creek, Camden and Canberra Clubs, as well as a number of non members, supporting the show.
Trevor Brand was the judge. He did a great job to get through the classes, giving everyone time to show their horse to advantage, and finished just in time for the Ute Barrel Races and Demolition Derby to take over the arena and duly rip it up ! Mind you, a lot of the harness enthusiasts stayed to watch the wild abandon of the Ute drivers from the safety of the area behind the fence ! Many thanks to Tracey Greenacre and Yvonne Wood who did much of the preliminary work for the show and then stewarded for Trevor in the ring.
